Train to Old Port: no stairs, no dragging cases
The Old Port is only just over a kilometre from the station, but Saint-Charles’s monumental staircase and the pavements of Boulevard d’Athènes are hard work with suitcases. A private driver picks you up on the forecourt and drops you at your hotel.
The driver goes via La Canebière or Cours Belsunce depending on roadworks and closed streets. The minimum fare applies, however long the ride takes.
Do you serve Le Panier and the Mucem?
Yes. Le Panier has steep lanes, so the drop-off is at the closest accessible point; the Mucem has a drop-off by the J4 esplanade.
Down the hill to the harbour
The Old Port is less than two kilometres from Saint-Charles, and on foot the monumental staircase and La Canebière lead there in about twenty minutes. With suitcases, after a long journey or late at night, the car is simpler: the driver goes down Boulevard d’Athènes or the Belsunce side, depending on traffic, and drops you on the quay, in front of your hotel or at the entrance to Le Panier, at the minimum fare.
Around the Old Port
The fish market on Quai des Belges is held every morning, a few steps from the Ombrière, Norman Foster’s mirrored canopy. The forts of Saint-Jean and Saint-Nicolas guard the harbour entrance, and the Mucem, linked to Fort Saint-Jean by a footbridge, is a ten-minute walk. Boats leave from the quay for the Frioul islands, the Château d’If and the calanques. In the evening the restaurants around the harbour fill up; many hotels are in pedestrian streets, and the driver drops you as close as access allows.
