Carry-le-Rouet: Côte Bleue coves and sea urchins

Carry-le-Rouet is a seaside village on the Côte Bleue, with small rocky coves and a harbour. The Oursinade sea-urchin festival is held in February. In summer the coves around Cap Rousset are packed and car parks overflow by morning.

From Marignane the road goes via Châteauneuf-les-Martigues and the D9 before dropping to the sea. With no motorway, it is one of our shortest transfers to the coast.

Can you drop me at Le Rouet or Sausset?

Yes. Le Rouet is part of the town and Sausset-les-Pins is next door, at a very similar fare.

The Côte Bleue at the weekend

Carry-le-Rouet was long the holiday home of the actor Fernandel, whose villa stood near the harbour. The coastal path links Carry to Sausset and La Redonne through small coves where people swim from the rocks. The Cap-Couronne marine reserve protects the seabed, popular with divers and snorkellers.

The Côte Bleue train stops above the harbour but does not serve the airport: from Marignane the road via Châteauneuf-les-Martigues is direct, about 25 minutes. For a villa in the hills, give the exact address, as some lanes are narrow and unnumbered.

Sea urchin Sundays

From January to March, the oursinade Sundays bring thousands of people to the harbour. Parking is impossible on those days: being dropped off and picked up is by far the simplest option, at the fixed price.
