Marseille Airport ⇄ Aix-en-Provence shuttle: coach, train, taxi or private driver?

Marseille Provence Airport is about 30 kilometres from the centre of Aix-en-Provence and around fifteen minutes from Aix TGV station. Several options run in both directions: the shuttle coach, the train, a taxi or a private driver. Here is how each one works, and which to choose depending on your arrival.

The airport ⇄ Aix-en-Provence shuttle coach

Coaches link the airport with the Aix-en-Provence bus station, with a stop at Aix TGV station on some departures. It is often the cheapest option for a single traveller with light luggage. However, the shuttle drops you at the bus station, at the bottom of town: you then need to walk or take a bus or taxi to your hotel. If you land early or late, check the first and last departure times on the airport website.

The train

There is no direct train between the airport and Aix. You need to get to Vitrolles Aéroport Marseille-Provence station and then change trains. With suitcases, the connection makes the journey noticeably longer.

The taxi

There is a taxi rank outside the terminals. The fare is metered and goes up at night, on Sundays and on public holidays. It is a good option if you have not booked anything.

A private driver: door to door, at a fixed price

A private driver is booked in advance. Your driver tracks your flight, meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign and drops you at your exact address: a hotel in the centre, a country house, an office in Les Milles or Aix TGV station. The price is set when you book and does not change, even if your flight is late or the A51 is busy.

Indicative prices, tolls included; the exact price is shown before you confirm. For three or four people, a private driver often costs less than several shuttle tickets plus a taxi for the last leg.

The other way: from Aix to the airport

For a flight from Marseille Provence, allow about 30 minutes by road from central Aix outside rush hour, and be at the terminal 2 hours before a European flight. A driver booked the day before picks you up at the agreed time, even for a 6 am flight, at the same price as during the day.

Which option should you choose?

• Travelling alone, light, with no time constraints: the shuttle.
• Nothing booked and in a hurry: a taxi from the rank.
• Arriving early or late, with children, luggage or as a group: a private driver booked in advance.
• Connecting from a plane to a TGV: a private driver to Aix TGV station, in a quarter of an hour.
