The route

The driver takes the A7 northbound all the way to the Avignon-Sud exit.

Arriving in Avignon

Inside the walls

Drop-off as close as possible to your address within the ramparts, depending on which streets are open to traffic.

Avignon TGV and surroundings

The driver can also drop you at the TGV station, Villeneuve-lès-Avignon or Le Pontet.

When the train is not enough

Strikes, engineering works, a missed last train: a private driver is the safest fallback between Marseille and Avignon. The driver waits at Saint-Charles and drops you at your door, at a price known in advance.

For four people, the trip costs about €43 each in Eco, comparable to several last-minute tickets.

The Palais des Papes and the Pont Saint-Bénézet

The Palais des Papes is the largest Gothic palace in Europe: in the 14th century Avignon was the residence of the popes for almost seventy years. The Pont Saint-Bénézet, the bridge of the famous song, now has only four of its original twenty-two arches. The Rocher des Doms, a garden perched above the Rhône, gives the best view of the bridge and the river.

In July, the Avignon Festival and its Off transform the town, with more than a thousand shows a day and posters on every façade; hotels are booked months ahead.

Avignon Centre or Avignon TGV

To return to Paris, some travellers prefer to leave from Avignon TGV rather than Marseille. The driver can drop you at your hotel and, on departure day, at the TGV station, about ten minutes from the centre. Cours Jean-Jaurès, from the central station to Place de l’Horloge, is the main street, and most hotels inside the walls are within fifteen minutes’ walk of it.

Should you take a taxi or book a driver to Avignon?

For a 106 km journey, both are possible: a taxi at the regulated fare, or a private driver with the price agreed at booking. You pay a fixed fare agreed in advance: from €170 in Eco, whatever the traffic.

A driver waits for your train with a name sign and helps with your luggage.

Taxis use the regulated metered fare. With GoTransfert you book at a fixed price: from €170 (Eco), €202 (Sedan) or €266 (8-seat Van), day or night.
